SPECIFICATIONS
AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
HEAT TREATMENT
For scenarios demanding high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength, annealing can be conducted at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
DAXUN 6-4™ Grade 5 alloy offers versatile heat treatment options.
1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F; (691 - 760°C), ½ to 2 hours, air or furnace cool.
2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F; (538 - 649°C), 1 to 8 hours, air or furnace cool.
3. Solution Heat Treat: 1,675 -1,750°F; (913 - 954°C), 1 hour, water quench.
4. Aging: 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C), 4 to 8 hours, air cool.
Optimal properties are achieved in the solution treated and aged condition with rapid quenching of small sections. Larger sections or delayed quenching may yield suboptimal properties.
HARDNESS
Typical hardness in the annealed state is Rockwell C 30-34, and approximately Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged state.
Superior Forgeability/Formability
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bars are forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A minimum reduction of 35% is recommended to achieve optimal properties.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is renowned for its unparalleled resilience, making it a challenge to form at room temperature, even when annealed. However, it can endure severe forming operations like bending or stretching at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical integrity. Hot sizing or forming is achievable through creep forming within the temperature range of 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C).
Machinability
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar exhibits excellent machinability using austenitic stainless steel techniques. Employing slow machining speeds, high feed rates, rigid tooling, and copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids ensures optimal results.
Weldability
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is highly weldable whether in the annealed state or in the solution and partially aged condition, with aging occurring during post weld heat treatment. It is crucial to avoid contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas shield for the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, complete with a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding are achievable without the need for a protective atmosphere.
Special Considerations
It's important to note that the Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod may suffer from hydrogen contamination due to improper pickling, and from oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging and heat treating. Such contamination can result in a loss of ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Grade 2 Titanium Rod - Precision and Quality

Outstanding Corrosion Resistance
Titanium is not recommended for use with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Comprehensive General Corrosion Protection
Table 1 illustrates the general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media. CP titanium demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance in numerous environments, including:
Seawater and Brines
Inorganic Salts
Moist *** Gas
Alkaline Solutions
Oxidizing Acids
Organic Compounds and Organic Acids
Sulfur Compounds
Superior Crevice Corrosion Resistance
CP titanium offers remarkable resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels and shows no crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F) regardless of pH, even under super chlorinated conditions.
Exceptional Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance
Grade 2 titanium exhibits excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Superb Erosion Corrosion Resistance
Titanium exhibits excellent resistance to erosion in flowing environments.
Experience the unparalleled resilience of our materials, even in seawater velocities reaching up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec). Abrasive particles like sand exert only a marginal impact on corrosion resistance.
Understanding Hydrogen Embrittlement
Rest assured, there is negligible hydrogen absorption into titanium when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption typically occurs only under the following stringent conditions:
1. The pH value is less than 3 or greater than 12.
2. The temperature exceeds 176°F (80°C).
3. A mechanism for hydrogen generation exists, such as a galvanic couple or an impressed current.
Bio-Corrosion Resistance
Titanium alloys exhibit exceptional immunity to microbiologically influenced corrosion. While biofouling can occur due to the non-toxic nature towards marine life, it can be effectively mitigated through chlorination or by enhancing water velocity within the heat exchanger.
Corrosion Fatigue Resistance
Titanium stands out for its steadfast fatigue performance, unaffected by seawater. Whether tested in air or seawater, both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain unchanged.
Understanding Galvanic Corrosion
Titanium's position near the noble end of the galvanic series, close to stainless steels, means it usually acts as the cathode in metal pairings. This ensures titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion, although it can accelerate corrosion in less noble metals. When paired with more noble metals like graphite, titanium's passivity is further enhanced.
Unwavering Fatigue Properties
Grade 2 Titanium Rod exhibits remarkable fatigue properties, showing no degradation even in the presence of seawater. The fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are consistent whether the tests are conducted in air or seawater.
Exemplary Weldability
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod boasts excellent weldability when appropriate precautions are implemented. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must cover both the OD and ID of the rod. Additionally, the material should be devoid of any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rods are typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the heat-affected zone, low heat input should be employed. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not necessary.
